Japan Producer Prices Up 2.9 Pct in June
Tokyo, July 10 (Jiji Press)--Producer prices in Japan rose 2.9 pct from a year before in June, up for the 52nd straight month, Bank of Japan data showed Thursday.
The producer price index, which measures the costs of goods traded between businesses, stood at 126.2 against the 2020 base of 100.
While prices of rice and other food items remain elevated, the growth in the index slowed for the third consecutive month as the government expanded its gasoline subsidy program and crude oil prices went down.
Of the 515 items surveyed, 376 saw price increases while 113 posted decreases.
By category, prices jumped 43.9 pct for agricultural, forestry and fisheries products. Rice prices rose, and a bird flu outbreak led to higher egg prices.
