TICAD 9 to Seek Innovative Solutions to Challenges in Africa

   Tokyo, Aug. 15 (Jiji Press)--The Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD 9, is set to discuss innovative measures to support the development of countries in the continent and address challenges facing them, during its three-day run from Wednesday in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo.
   The summit-level conference co-hosted by the Japanese government and global organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank and the African Union Commission has been convened since 1993 every five years until 2013 and every three years since then. It will take place in Japan for the first time since TICAD 7 held in Yokohama in 2019.
   The Japanese government has sent invitations to 49 African countries, of which more than 40 have expressed their intentions to attend by Thursday, according to the Foreign Ministry.
   At the conference, participants will discuss issues related to the economy, peace and stability, and creating societies using innovative ways backed by Japan's technologies and know-how to solve challenges facing African countries.
