Rokkaen was built 110 years ago as a residence for Seiroku Moroto II, a wealthy businessman and has been designated as an important cultural property. The site features western and Japanese-style wings, storehouses and a garden where you can enjoy a stroll around the pond. It still retains much of its original appearance.
The western-style wing was designed by Josiah Condor, a British architect known as the "father of Japanese modern architecture,” who also designed the Rokumeikan and the Nikolai Cathedral. It has developed a distinct presence within Japan’s residential construction history.

In “Deep Dive into the Charms of KUWANA,” three experts, Mummy-D (musician), Shinya Shirasu (Writer, Art Producer) and Hisashi Kashiwai (Essayist) talk about the charms of the city including its history, culture, and food.

Currently there are over 6,000 foreign residents in Kuwana City. Under our “Foreigner-Friendly City” concept, we have been carrying out initiatives and PR activities to become an attractive city for people from abroad. Last year we opened a concierge service for foreign residents in the city hall providing support in multiple languages.
An article introducing Kuwana City has been released in “Japan-guide.com,” a leading website delivering information on traveling in Japan, its lifestyle and culture.
