Japan Industrial Output Rises 3.8 Pct in March

Tokyo, April 30 (Jiji Press)--Japan's industrial production in March jumped 3.8 pct from the previous month, rising for the first time in three months as vehicle output rebounded after months of sluggishness amid test fraud scandals, the industry ministry said Tuesday.
The seasonally adjusted production index for the manufacturing and mining sectors was 101.1 against the 2020 base of 100, the ministry said in a preliminary report.
The ministry maintained its basic assessment on industrial production, saying that it is weakening while fluctuating indecisively.
Of the 15 industries surveyed, production rose in nine industries, including the auto sector, whose output grew 9.6 pct for the first rise in three months.
Production machinery output rose 11.6 pct, led by chipmaking equipment thanks to increased orders from China and Taiwan.
