Japanese Medalists at 2016 Rio Olympics
Kosuke Hagino Brings 1st-Ever Men's 400M Individual Medley Gold to Japan
During the 2016 Rio Olympic Games held on Aug. 5-21, Japanese athletes earned a record 41 medals--12 golds, eight silvers and 21 bronzes. They also made historic accomplishments individually, including winning golds in men's 400-meter individual medley swimming and women's badminton doubles, silvers in men's 400-meter track relay and men's team table tennis, and bronzes in men's canoe, men's race walk, men's singles table tennis and women's singles badminton. And the greatest emphasis should be made on the achievements by wrestler Kaori Icho, who became the first woman ever in the world to win a gold for four consecutive Olympic Games, and Kohei Uchimura, who prevailed men's all-around individual gymnastics for the second straight Games and helped bring back a team gold to Japan for the first time in 12 years since the Athens Olympics..
