Japan Core Machinery Orders Down 9.1 Pct in April

   Tokyo, June 18 (Jiji Press)--Japan's seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in April declined 9.1 pct from the previous month, marking the first decrease in three months, the Cabinet Office said Wednesday.
   Core private-sector orders, which exclude those for ships and power utilities and are closely watched as a leading indicator of corporate capital investment, totaled 919 billion yen.
   The Cabinet Office kept its basic assessment of machinery orders unchanged, saying that they are showing signs of picking up.
   The office attributed the decline to a drop in demand following a series of large-scale orders worth over 10 billion yen each the previous month.
   The impacts of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs have not yet been confirmed, as orders for autos and auto parts did not show a significant decrease, an official at the Cabinet Office said.
