Japan Producer Prices Up 2.6 Pct in July

Tokyo, Aug. 13 (Jiji Press)--Japan's producer price index in July rose 2.6 pct from a year earlier, up for the 53rd consecutive month, the Bank of Japan said in a preliminary report Wednesday.
The index that measures the cost of goods traded between businesses stood at 126.6 against the 2020 base of 100.
While rice prices remain elevated, the pace of rise in the index slowed for four straight months amid lower crude oil prices.
Producer prices went up for 365 of the 515 items surveyed by the central bank and went down for 127.
By category, prices jumped 42.2 pct for agricultural, forestry and fisheries products owing to soaring rice prices and higher egg prices reflecting bird flu outbreaks. "The price growth for polished and brown rice has become smaller than before," a BOJ official noted.
