Tokyo, Aug. 20 (Jiji Press)--Nippon Paper Industries Co. will further increase exports of household paper, paper containers and biomass materials, new President Akira Sebe has said.
"We'll capture (demand) in overseas markets," he said in a recent interview. His company faces shrinking domestic demand for graphic paper mainly used for newspapers and copy papers.
Expressing keen interest in merger and acquisition opportunities abroad, he said, "We'll make our selections in South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and other places where there is a demographic dividend (with a large workforce) as we examine demand trends."
Nippon Paper plans to consolidate six domestic graphic paper production sites into about three by fiscal 2028. Still, Sebe sees the need to do more with the market shrinking faster than expected.
"We need to change the pace of our production system review," he said.
