DAGUPAN CITY--Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Sunday assured disaster-hit communities that there is a sufficient supply of relief goods to support ongoing local government efforts.

During his visit to the evacuation center in Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City, Gatchalian said the agency has prepositioned around 3 million family food packs nationwide.

Of this, nearly 754,000 have already been distributed across the country.

"The DSWD is ready. We receive daily requests, and the repacking of goods continues every day," he said, noting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure that no evacuee goes hungry.

Gatchalian underscored that the DSWD is working closely with local government units to ensure a steady supply of food and non-food aid in evacuation centers.

"Under the order of our President, the DSWD is ready to meet the needs of our evacuees. We will consult with your local government units to make sure that there is a continuous supply of food and other kits that are needed inside the evacuation center," he said.

The DSWD chief led the distribution of 400 family food packs and 132 hygiene kits for internally displaced persons and affected fisherfolk in Dagupan City.

He also visited La Union, where he distributed 138 family food packs.

As of Sunday, the DSWD has released a total of 87,185 family food packs, 275 ready-to-eat food packs, and 2,023 non-food items amounting to PHP62.1 million. (PNA)
