The downtown area of Ho Chi Minh City was vibrant on Wednesday evening as residents gathered along the Saigon River to witness a grand fireworks display celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification (April 30).

This year, Ho Chi Minh City organized fireworks shows at a record 30 locations across various districts, including two high-altitude sites and 28 low-level firing points to ensure broad visibility for residents.

Despite the many viewing points, thousands of people flocked to Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1 and nearby streets as early as 5:00 pm the same day, filling the area with festive energy and heavy traffic.

Another major viewing spot was the low-altitude fireworks display at Reunification Palace, also located in District 1, where members of the public were allowed into the area on Le Duan Boulevard from 5:00 pm to secure spots for the show.

At 9:00 pm sharp, fireworks erupted simultaneously from Reunification Palace and the other sites across the city, with dazzling colors and shapes illuminating the skyline for around 15 minutes, creating giant floral bursts above downtown Ho Chi Minh City.

"We've been looking forward to this all week," said Nhung, a resident of Thu Duc City, who brought her husband and two young children to watch the fireworks.

"It's a fun outing for the kids and a meaningful way to teach them about our country's history. The atmosphere is just amazing," Nhung told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
