Conquering Ngoc Linh peak: The rooftop of Central Highlands and southern Vietnam
After a full day of trekking uphill with backpacks and walking sticks, a group of 11 tourists from Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City recently reached the 2,605-meter-high summit of Ngoc Linh in the Annamite Range in central Vietnam.
Ngoc Linh, known as 'the roof of the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam,' is filled with sacred stories and mysterious legends.
The summit is located in the Annamite Range, known as Truong Son Range in Vietnam, within the provinces of Kon Tum and Quang Nam.
Ngoc Linh is home to several ethnic minority communities such as the Co Tu and Xe Dang.
It is also where Ngoc Linh ginseng, which has been considered as a national treasure, was discovered.
A tough coveted adventure
The journey to Ngoc Linh Summit has always remained a desired challenge for adventure seekers.
"From the very first steps, we knew we were about to face countless challenges," Tra Thi Thu, one of the 11 adventurers recalled.
"The forest path was winding and tangled, with one steep slope after another, as if testing each member's endurance."
"There were moments when we slipped and fell into the mud, our hands and feet bruised, and clothes dirty," she added.
"But once we set out, we never looked back.
"No one gave up, even when our bodies felt like falling apart."
The breathtaking natural surroundings--from ancient trees draped in moss and green lichen, to century-old pines standing tall in the mist, and clusters of forest mushrooms and wildflowers--seemed to fill everyone with renewed strength.
Emotions ran high as the group reached the mountaintop, hugging each other and recording the moment of joy and pride.
"Conquering the highest peak of the majestic Truong Son range is a testament to our willpower, perseverance, and desire to push beyond our limits," Thu said.
She added that the trip was spontaneously organized with 11 members of varying ages. Some over 50 yet still climbed with unwavering determination.
They made thorough preparations, bringing food, tents, first-aid supplies, and enlisting a team of nine local porters to carry equipment.
It took roughly 10 hours to reach the summit from the starting point, covering a steep 6.3-kilometer trail.
The group camped overnight on the peak before making their way back down.
