Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology officially launched the Vietnam Science and Technology Exchange in Hanoi on Monday, signaling a strategic step toward deepening the country's innovation-driven economic transformation.

The Vietnam Science and Technology Exchange is scheduled to become fully operational by November 2025.

In its first phase, the platform provides listings for 600 technologies available for sale in the form of machinery and equipment, along with 50 active technology purchase requests and a network of 150 consultants and technology brokers.

The exchange functions as a hub for organizations, businesses, and individuals to showcase and promote their technologies and innovations through online booths.

In its second phase, the platform will expand with features such as real-time online supply-demand matching, professional consulting and brokerage services, transaction tracking tools, and financial, intellectual property, and tech transfer advisory.

The exchange is also expected to integrate seamlessly with national databases on science, technology, and innovation, offering a hybrid model combining both online and offline functionality.

It is developed under a public-private partnership model in which the Vietnamese government invests in digital infrastructure, provides shared access to national science and technology data, and supports policy frameworks to ensure secure, transparent, and efficient technology transactions.

The launch of the exchange comes amid a global wave of digital transformation and innovation, with technology markets emerging as a key driver for economic growth, especially in developed economies.

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization and the World Bank, countries with well-developed technology markets report R&D investment and patent commercialization rates three to five times higher than those without structured platforms.

Currently, Vietnam is well-positioned for the growth of its technology exchange ecosystem.

This is supported by strong policy foundations, including national directives on scientific and technological breakthroughs and digital transformation such as Resolutions No. 57 and No. 193, increasingly robust digital infrastructure, and urgent demand from enterprises for productivity gains and technology upgrades to escape the low value-added trap.

Over the past decade, Vietnam has developed and operated 22 provincial technology portals and held numerous large-scale supply-demand matching events such as Techmart, Techconnect and Innovation, and Techfest.

These initiatives have laid critical groundwork for the new exchange model.
