US human rights report based on unverified information: Vietnam’s foreign ministry
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected the assessments of the human rights situation in Vietnam in the latest U.S. human rights report, saying they are unobjective and based on unverified information.
Speaking at a regular press conference in Hanoi on Thursday, ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang responded to questions about the U.S. Department of State’s 2024 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, released Tuesday.
“We regret that the report fails to reflect Vietnam’s achievements and progress in protecting human rights,” Hang said.
She noted that the document continues to offer assessments that are inaccurate and unsupported by verified facts.
“The protection and promotion of human rights has been a consistent policy of Vietnam. We always place people at the center and consider them the driving force of our renewal process and national development,” she said.
Hang emphasized that Vietnam’s Party and State are committed to improving living standards and ensuring that no one is left behind.
“Fundamental human rights and freedoms are enshrined in Vietnam’s Constitution, protected and promoted through specific legal documents, and implemented in practice,” she added.
Hang affirmed that Vietnam is open to exchanges with the U.S. on remaining differences, aiming at enhancing mutual understanding and contributing to the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
