OKI Group’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets Acquire SBT Net Zero Standards Certification
- Achieving net-zero CO2 emissions across the value chain, including its own sites, by FY2050 -
TOKYO--( BUSINESS WIRE )-- OKI (TOKYO: 6703) has acquired SBT certification for its FY2050 greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, which are among its mid- to long-term environmental targets: OKI Group Environmental Vision 2030/2050. These targets have been recognized as science-based by the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) (Note 1), to achieve the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement. OKI is working to achieve these targets by promoting decarbonization across its value chain, including its own sites, thereby contributing to resolving social issues as a company Delivering OK! to your life.

SBT certification was granted for the FY2050 targets related to preventing global warming among the OKI Group’s mid- to long-term environmental targets: OKI Group Environmental Vision 2030/2050.
FY2050 targets:
- Net zero CO2 emissions at OKI site and the entire value chain (Note 2)
- In particular, net zero CO2 emissions at OKI sites (Note 3) and net zero power consumption by new products
Based on its environmental policy, OKI is seeking to “create a better global environment and pass it on to the next generation.” Among its material issues (Materiality) updated in conjunction with the Medium-Term Business Plan 2025, OKI identifies conservation of the global environment as one of the areas in which it will contribute to solving social issues, and aims for reducing the environmental impact through business activities, including at its own sites.
One specific initiative consists of promoting increased use of renewable energy. OKI is currently pursuing decarbonization by installing solar panels and concluding contracts for electricity derived from renewable energy sources, notably at the Honjo Plant H1 building in Honjo, Saitama Prefecture, the first building in Japan to achieve ZEB certification. OKI plans to achieve its targets by developing energy-saving technologies for its hardware products, strengthening communication with suppliers, and sourcing components from manufacturers who generate low CO2 emissions.
[Terminology]
Note 1: SBTi: Involving the WWF, CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), and United Nations Global Compact, this joint initiative encourages companies to set emission reduction targets consistent with scientific knowledge to achieve the goal of limiting the increase in global average temperature attributable to climate change to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Note 2: Reduce CO2 emissions by more than 90% compared to FY2020, covering 90% of all SCOPE 1 to 3 categories, and achieve Net zero through neutralization by carbon removal, etc.
Note 3: SCOPE1 (CO2 generated by fuel use at company sites, leakage of alternative chlorofluorocarbons in air conditioners, use of company vehicles, etc.)+ SCOPE2 (CO2 generated from electricity use at company sites)
