Still Unable to Fully Reopen Its Only Takamori-Tateno Line after Quakes, Minamiaso Railway in Kumamoto Prefecture Trying to Attract Tourists by Operating 'Torokko' Sightseeing Train (Right), Decorating Railcar with Popular Animation Characters


     A 6.5-magnitude foreshock on April 14 and the 7.3-magnitude main temblor two days later, both of which registered the highest intensity level of 7 on the Japanese scale in Kumamoto Prefecture, killed tens of people, injured more than 1,000 and severely damaged houses, industries and social infrastructure including roads and railway lines in Kumamoto and other parts of Kyushu.
