The 11th 'Hyakudan Hinamatsuri' exhibition at the Hyakudan Kaidan Exhibition hall, the Tokyo metropolitan government-designated cultural asset, in Hotel Gajoen Tokyo brought together hundreds of dolls and ornaments mainly from three western Japan prefectures--Tottori, Shimane and Yamaguchi. This year's exhibition also featured dolls representing the Edo, Meiji, Taisho, Showa and Reiwa eras, including ones depicting Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako in an enthronement-linked rite. Hina dolls are traditionally displayed at the 'Hinamatsuri' Girls' Day festival on March 3 to wish for the well-being of girls. Most of the dolls represent the Emperor and the Empress, as well as palace attendants and musicians in the Heian period.
