(Update) Fuji Media Committee Recognizes Sexual Assault by Nakai
Tokyo, March 31 (Jiji Press)--A third-party committee set up by Fuji Media Holdings Inc. and scandal-embattled subsidiary Fuji Television Network Inc. said Monday that former TV star Masahiro Nakai committed a sexual assault against a then Fuji TV employee.
In a report released on the day, the committee also said that the sexual violence constituted "a serious violation of human rights." It added that the incident happened as "an extension" of Fuji TV's business operations, as Nakai was "an important business partner" of the broadcaster.
It described the handling of the sex scandal by Fuji TV's management, including then President Koichi Minato, as extremely sloppy. It also said that all members of the company's board of directors are considered responsible.
The committee criticized the management team for lacking awareness of victim relief, saying that it was not functioning as a managing body.
Fuji TV's subsequent moves made in Nakai's favor, such as delivering consolation money from Nakai to the female victim, "may be considered as actions inflicting secondary damage," the committee said.
