Washington, June 5 (Jiji Press)--Japanese economic revitalization minister Ryosei Akazawa and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick held talks in Washington on Thursday over U.S. President Donald Trump's high tariffs.
The two ministers discussed trade expansion, nontariff trade measures and economic security cooperation in detail, Japanese government officials said.
Akazawa is also scheduled to meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday as part of the two countries' tariff talks.
In an effort to win concessions from the United States, the Japanese side is expected to propose cooperation in exporting vehicles assembled by Japanese automakers in the United States to third countries.
Tokyo and Washington have been exploring the possibility of reaching an agreement at a meeting of their leaders on the sidelines of a Group of Seven summit in Canada in mid-June.
