Vietnam finished third overall behind Thailand and Kazakhstan at the ninth Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship held in Amman, Jordan, from Friday to Monday, winning a total of seven gold, two silver, and six bronze medals.

The Vietnamese national team, consisting of 11 athletes, completed professional events on Saturday evening (Vietnam time).

Among the standout performances, Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc claimed three gold medals in the women’s over-70kg category in both the fighting and contact categories.

Tran Hong An earned two gold medals in the women’s under-52kg contact and under-57kg fighting events.

Nguyen Thi Minh Vuong bagged a silver in the women’s under-63kg contact category and a bronze in the under-70kg fighting event.

Other female medalists included Ngo Thi Thao Van, who secured a gold in the under-70kg contact event; Vuong Tran Hoai Thuong, who won a silver in the under-57kg fighting and a bronze in the under-52kg contact; and Ha Thi Anh Uyen, who earned a bronze in the under-63kg contact.

In the men’s division, Dao Hong Son stood out by winning a gold in the under-56kg contact event and a bronze in the under-56kg fighting event.

In team events, Vietnam secured two bronze medals: one in the mixed pair category by Can Van Thang and Tran Hong An, and another in the men’s pair by Nguyen Tien Trien and Van Suu.

Vietnam’s third-place finish at the 2025 Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship is a significant achievement as the team continues to refine its roster in preparation for SEA Games 33 in Thailand, a nation with a strong ju-jitsu program.

The championship continues on Monday with U21 competition and demonstration events.

Vietnam is expected to win additional gold medals through promising young athletes who are already key members of the national team.
