A textile company in southern Vietnam was fined more than VND772 million (US$29,530) and had its environmental permit suspended for 4.5 months on Friday for discharging untreated wastewater into the environment.

The Kornbest Vietnam Co. Ltd., located in the Thanh Dien industrial cluster in Tay Ninh Province, was penalized for two environmental violations, according to the Tay Ninh police's economic and environmental crimes division.

Authorities said the company released wastewater with pollutant levels exceeding permitted limits by more than 10 times, with a discharge volume ranging between 200 and 400 cubic meters per day.

The company also installed pipes and equipment to discharge waste directly into the environment without treatment, police said.

In addition to the fine and permit suspension, the company was ordered to implement corrective measures and report results within 60 days of receiving the decision.
