(Update) Quake-Hit Noto Region Prepares to Welcome New Year

Suzu, Ishikawa Pref., Dec. 31 (Jiji Press)--People in areas in the Noto Peninsula in central Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture damaged by a massive earthquake on Jan. 1, 2024, prepared on Tuesday to welcome the New Year.
On the final day of 2024, Yoshihiro Tanimoto, 72, used the "Machino no Yu" bathing support service, which was launched in late May in the city of Wajima.
"It was great" to be able to use the service on New Year's Eve, he said. Tanimoto, who lives with his wife in their house damaged by the 7.6-magnitude earthquake, also said, "I hope there will be no earthquake in 2025."
The bathing service will also be available in the morning of New Year's Day on Wednesday, which marks the first anniversary of the temblor, according to a man in his 60s working as a temporary staff member of Peace Boat Disaster Relief, which runs the service. "I'm ready to continue supporting local people in 2025," he said.
"Kadocho Shokudo," a restaurant in the heart of Wajima, was closed after the earthquake as a neighboring noodle factory was damaged by the disaster.
