CMC Corporation said on Sunday it received approval from Ho Chi Minh City's Saigon High-Tech Park management board to invest over US$250 million in a large-scale data center project at the park.

The data center will initially have a design capacity of 30 MW, with plans to expand it to 120 MW in the future.

It is meant to meet the massive computing demands for AI development and the digital economy.

According to a CMC representative, the facility is designed as the 'heart' for storing, computing, and analyzing vast amounts of data.

It will offer services such as AI-as-a-service, cloud infrastructure, big data analytics, and cybersecurity for millions of users.

The center will integrate next-generation network technologies and an 800G DWDM (dense wavelength-division multiplexing) transmission system, ensuring ultra-high bandwidth, stable and secure connectivity.

A notable feature is the application of Digital Twin technology, enabling real-time simulation and monitoring to optimize overall operational performance.

Renewable energy solutions will be prioritized to improve energy efficiency and deliver environmentally friendly data center solutions that meet modern green data center standards.

Nguyen Trung Chinh, chairman of the board of directors and executive president of CMC Corporation, said the firm does not consider the CMC Hyperscale Data Center SHTP a conventional data center.

It is the foundational infrastructure for Ho Chi Minh City to develop into a regional digital hub and the core infrastructure supporting digital and AI transformation, allowing Vietnamese enterprises to access the most powerful computing resources without sending data abroad, Chinh added.

For Ho Chi Minh City, the data center is expected to contribute to building a comprehensive AI ecosystem, attracting R&D centers, startups, investment funds, and tech universities.

This will accelerate the city's transformation into Vietnam's first AI city and expand its role as a regional digital hub.
