Trump Goes to Great Lengths to Host Japan's Ishiba

Washington, Feb. 7 (Jiji Press)--The first face-to-face summit between Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and U.S. President Donald Trump held Friday highlighted Trump's consideration for his country's ally.
Ishiba became the second foreign leader received at the White House by Trump since he was sworn in as president in January, and the first from Asia.
Behind the generous hospitality at the summit, which included a working lunch, was a U.S. intention of deepening its strategic cooperation with Japan, an economic power and the United States' largest Asian ally, as a way to keep in check China, which is closing its gap with the United States as an economic and military power.
"I think he's a very strong man," Trump said of Ishiba at a press conference after the summit. "I have great respect for him."
The closely-watched summit was picked up by the U.S. media as well.
