Vietnam welcomes nearly 10.7 million international tourists in H1 2025
Vietnam's tourism industry showed positive signs in the first half of 2025, receiving more than 10.7 million international visitors, up 21 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the General Statistics Office on Saturday.
In June alone, Vietnam served 1.46 million foreign travelers, a slight decrease from the previous month but over 17 percent higher than the same period in 2024.
Air travel remained the primary mode of entry, accounting for nearly 9.1 million arrivals.
Land routes saw close to 1.4 million entries, while the remainder arrived by sea.
So far, Vietnam has reached nearly 49 percent of its target of attracting 2223 million international visitors in 2025.
The peak travel season from October to December is expected to significantly contribute to the annual total.
Northeast Asia remained the largest source market, making up 60 percent of all international arrivals in the first half of the year.
China continued to lead with over 2.7 million visitors, followed by South Korea with more than 2.2 million.
The General Statistics Office also reported that revenue from accommodation and food services was estimated at VND409.5 trillion (US$15.6 billion) in the first half.
Several localities posted impressive year-on-year revenue growth, including Da Nang (18.5 percent), Ho Chi Minh City (16.9 percent), Hanoi (13 percent), and Hai Phong (12.5 percent).
Many provinces and cities have actively launched tourism stimulus programs and developed new tourism products to attract both domestic and international visitors.
During the first government and localities conference held after implementing the two-tiered local government model on July 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recognized tourism as one of the top ten highlights in January-June.
According to the May 2025 edition of the World Tourism Barometer published by the United Nations Tourism Organization, Vietnam recorded the highest growth in international tourist arrivals in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2025, up 30 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
Vietnam also ranked second in international tourism recovery, with a 34-percent increase compared to 2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic had yet to hit Vietnam, and fourth in total tourism revenue growth, with a 29-percent rise compared to 2024.
