Japan Coincident Economic Index Rises in Sept.

Tokyo, Nov. 8 (Jiji Press)--Japan's composite index of coincident economic indicators in September rose 1.7 points from the previous month, reflecting a recovery in production at automobile plants disrupted by a typhoon in August, the Cabinet Office said Friday.
The coincident index, which reflects current economic conditions, stood at 115.7 against the 2020 base of 100, after a 3.2-point drop in August, the government agency said in a preliminary report.
The Cabinet Office kept its basic assessment unchanged, saying that the index is showing signs of bottoming out.
Five of the eight component indicators available in the preliminary report made positive contributions to the index. Auto production and shipments grew, overcoming the impact of the typhoon. Suspensions of steel shipments were also resolved.
Air conditioner production and shipments were also brisk, on the back of heat waves. By contrast, retail sales declined.
