Japan April-Sept. Current Account Surplus Hits Record High

Tokyo, Nov. 11 (Jiji Press)--Japan's current account surplus in April-September came to 15,824.8 billion yen, the highest ever on a half-year basis, Finance Ministry data showed Monday.
The surplus in the primary income account, which mainly covers Japanese companies' dividend and interest receipts from abroad, in the first half of fiscal 2024 also reached a record high. It came to 22,122.9 billion yen, reflecting higher foreign interest rates and a weaker yen.
Japan's deficit in goods trade came to 2,414.8 billion yen, with exports up 5.0 pct from a year before to 52,222.2 billion yen and imports up 7.1 pct to 54,636.9 billion yen.
In September alone, the country's current account surplus stood at 1,717.1 billion yen.
