Anutin resigns following Bhumjaithai withdrawal from coalition

Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul has submitted his resignation as Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister following his party’s withdrawal from the government coalition.

On Thursday, Anutin tendered his resignation letter to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, stating his intention to step down from all appointed or assigned positions.

The letter read:

“In accordance with the royal command appointing me as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior on September 3, 2024, I hereby submit my resignation from these posts, as well as from all other positions I have been appointed to or assigned, effective from June 19, 2025.”In addition to Anutin, several other ministers from the Bhumjaithai Party have also resigned from their positions.

The ministers who tendered their resignations include:


Songsak Thongsri, Deputy Interior Minister
Sabida Thaiseth, Deputy Interior Minister
Phipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour
Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation


 Earlier on Wednesday, the Bhumjaithai Party announced its decision to leave the coalition government, citing the controversial phone conversation between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.

The party said the incident had adversely affected Thailand’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interests, and the reputation of the Thai military.

The party also urged the Prime Minister to take political responsibility for what it described as a serious compromise of Thailand’s honour, dignity, and the esteem of the armed forces.

In its statement, Bhumjaithai reaffirmed its commitment to work alongside the Thai people, support the military, and assist all relevant authorities in protecting the nation's sovereignty and interests by all possible means.
