Japan Economy Grows at Annualized 3.1 Pct Rate in 2nd Quarter

   Tokyo, Aug. 15 (Jiji Press)--Japan's economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.1 pct in the second quarter of the year, adjusted for inflation and seasonal factors, the Cabinet Office said in a preliminary report Thursday.
   The gross domestic product reading for the April-June period exceeded a median estimate of a 2.3 pct increase in a Jiji Press survey of private think tanks.
   Private consumption rose 1.0 pct from the previous quarter, and corporate capital spending grew 0.9 pct.
   Before inflation adjustment, the country's GDP topped 600 trillion yen for the first time on an annualized basis.
