Bosnia Calls for Increased Aid to Developing Countries

   Washington, Aug. 17 (Jiji Press)--Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has successfully recovered from a devastating civil war to become an aid provider, wants major donor countries such as Japan and the United States to increase their contributions to developing countries.
   "It's crucial to have bigger...funds" at the International Development Association, Deputy Finance and Treasury Minister Muhamed Hasanovic has told Jiji Press, as concerns spread over aid fatigue among developed nations while developing countries face crises, including geopolitical conflicts and threats posed by climate change, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
   The Bosnian War, which took place from 1992 to 1995, saw the massacre of the nation's Muslim population. It was called the worst civil war in Europe since World War II.
   After the war, Bosnia-Herzegovina underwent reconstruction with the support of the international community, including the IDA, a World Bank Group body that supports the poorest countries. In 2023, the country announced that, for the first time, it would contribute funds to the IDA.
