MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) attracted P72.36 billion in investments from January to June, rising by 59.1 percent from P45.48 billion in the same period last year, driven by promotion efforts and reforms.

In a statement on Wednesday, Peza said that investments in June alone had soared by 113.77 percent, reaching P6.02 billion compared with P2.817 billion in May.

Peza approved 133 projects, representing a 10.83-percent annual increase. These projects are anticipated to provide 32,983 direct jobs for Filipinos.

The government agency also approved 31 new and expansion projects, mostly by export-oriented enterprises. These are seen to generate P6.02 billion in investments and $166.43 million in export revenues.
