MANILA, Philippines — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is the latest institution to sound the alarm on the risks associated with online gambling.

The central bank said in a statement that it was going to issue a circular that would, among others, require BSP-supervised institutions, primarily banks and electronic money issuers, to better protect users of their digital platforms from these risks.

“Protection may come in the form of various limits to gaming access,” it said.

This is in line with its financial consumer protection agenda and financial health goals.

In light of this, the BSP has circulated a draft of the document and is currently reviewing feedback from stakeholders.
