MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese woman was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) for posing as a Filipino, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Tuesday.

According to the NBI, the woman, identified as Wang Xiujun, was arrested upon her arrival at Naia from Guangdong, China, on July 13, 2025.

The NBI said the suspect was apprehended following an intelligence report indicating that Wang was using a fake Filipino identity—Cassi Palma Poliquit—in some of her business transactions.

An investigation by the agency also revealed that Wang was able to secure a Philippine passport under the fabricated name, as confirmed by the Office of Consular Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs, along with a Certificate of Live Birth issued through late registration.

“Based on the documents secured from the Securities and Exchange Commission, she established several companies where she represented herself as a Filipino,” the NBI noted.

“All these, despite the fact that she is a Chinese national with a Special Investor’s Resident Visa (SIRV), as verified by the Board of Investments,” it added.

A fingerprint analysis confirmed that the fingerprints of Wang and Poliquit were identical.

As a result, the NBI charged Wang with violations of the Immigration Law, specifically:

  • Misrepresentation as a Filipino

  • Violating the Limitations and Conditions of Stay

  • Undesirability

The NBI also filed charges under:

  • Article 172, in relation to Article 171 (paragraph 4), and Article 178 of the Revised Penal Code

  • Section 19 (b)(1) and (c)(1) of Republic Act 8239 or the Philippine Passport Act of 1996

The charges were filed before the Prosecutor's Office of Taguig City.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago, for his part, said the agency remains committed to investigating similar cases further. /jpv
