MANILA, Philippines — The damage to infrastructure due to recent tropical cyclones and southwest monsoon or habagat, swelled to over P9 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its Wednesday report.

Recent tropical cyclones Crising (international name: Wipha), Dante (Francisco), and Emong (Co-may) further intensified the habagat, tearing off roofs, uprooting trees, and toppling concrete electric posts, turning streets into rivers in several areas in the country.

These cyclones damaged at least 1,536 infrastructures in 10 regions nationwide, costing more than P9.4 billion.

More than one-third of the damage was logged in Central Luzon at P3.8 billion, and the other third was in the Ilocos Region at over P3 billion.

A total of 617 road sections and 41 bridges were affected, while at least 4,473 houses were totally destroyed nationwide.

Meanwhile, the agricultural destruction due to the weather disturbances stands at over P1.9 billion.

Death toll is at 34, while the total number of injuries and missing is at 22 and seven, the NDRRMC said.

A total of 7.4 million people were affected by the bad weather in all regions nationwide. /apl/abc
